Professor Peter Leyland is Senior Teaching Fellow and Visiting Professor of Public Law at the School of Oriental and African Studies and emeritus Professor of Public Law, London Metropolitan University. He has published widely in the field of UK public law, comparative constitutional law, on Thailand’s constitutional and legal system and UK constitutional and administrative law. The subject matter of his research has included the following themes, pursued in both a UK and comparative aspect, the latter relating especially to Italy and Thailand:
He has authored the volumes on the Constitution of the United Kingdom (3rd ed 2016) and the Constitutional System of Thailand (with A Harding, 2011) in the Hart series ‘Constitutional Systems of the World’, of which Peter is a founding editor and acting co-editor. Other publications include five edited collections in the field of public law and comparative public law.Accountability in the Contemporary Constitution and Sovereignty of the Law were published by Oxford University Press in November 2013. Also, (with Professor Gordon Anthony), he is the author of a study of UK Administrative Law, the eight edition of which was published in July 2016 by Oxford University Press.
Keynote speaker at the annual conference of Italian constitutional lawyers in 2014 and have frequent involvement in public law conferences and workshops. In addition, visiting professor at two colleges of the University of London (University College London and Queen Mary College); the Notre Dame University; the universities of Bologna, Padua, Ferrara, Trento, Palermo, Catania, Messina, Bari, Brescia, LUMSA, Rome, LUISS, Rome, Genoa and Bocconi, Milan, in Italy; Bordeaux in France, Munich in Germany; Vienna and Innsbruck in Austria; and at the National Institute for Development Administration, the Council of State and the Administrative Courts in Thailand; the University of Melbourne; and the University of Victoria in Canada. Peter serves on the board of more than ten scholarly journals, provide consultancy advice on legal and constitutional matters and has been an Honorary Fellow of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple since 2009.
